Putting items into storage because you’re moving house, upsizing, or downsizing a business can be a big challenge. At Blue Bear, we’ve got you covered when it comes to providing secure storage, but some customers need a few helping hands to ensure everything they own ends up where it needs to be.

We’ve put together a quick look at the additional services you might need to ensure your move and using our self-storage goes as smoothly as possible.

Packing Up Your Home or Business

Whether you’re moving house or changing business premises, you’ll need to have a good clear out to decide what is going into our storage units and what is going to the new building. There are packing services available that can do all the hard work for you. Whether you hire someone or do the job yourself, be as ruthless as you can with your belongings, especially if you’re downsizing.

Ask if you really have the space for everything you own. If you don’t, our weatherproof, secure storage units do.

Buying Boxes

It’s worth investing in good quality moving and storage boxes, especially if you’re going to be travelling over a long distance. Take the time to compare products between firms: more boxes for less money might be financially attractive. However, if they turn out to be flimsy and easily damaged, it could be a false economy in the long run.

Packaging Extras

Aside from plenty of strong boxes, we strongly recommend investing in good quality bubble wrap for your delicate or valuable items. It will not only protect belongings that are likely to be in transit, but it’s also great for long-term self-storage too.

Although our container units are weatherproof, a little dust can get in over time, especially if you visit multiple times.

Removals Hire

A key aspect of any move, whether a big house move or shifting from one business premise to another, is hiring a removal company. If you’re on a budget, a ‘man and a van service’ can be an effective, low-cost option.

To make sure you’re getting value for money, do your homework: check out any online reviews to see what previous customers thought when they were hired. If they have a website, explore it thoroughly to find out precisely what their services cover and if they meet your moving needs, including how many people work on each job.

Van Hire

If you prefer to DIY when moving home or putting items in self-storage, then hiring a van can be extremely cost-effective. There are lots of companies to choose from, offering a range of vans at affordable rates. You might have to call on family, friends, and work colleagues for help with the heavy lifting on the big day itself, but once you’re in your new home or office, it will be worth it.

  • 40 sq ft self-storage unit: Measuring 8ft (h) x 8ft (l) x 5ft (w), this self-storage space can easily hold the contents of a small garden shed, one small van, or 50-75 storage boxes.
  • 60 sq ft: At 7.75ft (h) x 7.75ft (l) x 8ft (w), these storage units offer enough space for the contents of a standard garden shed, one removal van, or 75-100 storage boxes.
  • 80 sq ft: Weighing in at 8ft (h) x 10ft (l) x 8ft (w), you can store the contents of a 1-2 bed house or flat, the contents of one Luton van, or 100-150 packing boxes in this storage solution.
  • 160 sq ft: Our biggest storage unit for rent is 8ft (h) x 20ft (l) x 8ft (w), perfect for a big move: the entire contents from a 3-4 bed family house or flat, the contents of two Luton vans, or 250-300 storage boxes.
