What is Grafotherm?

Grafotherm is a water-based, anti-condensation coating that prevents water droplets from forming and dripping onto surfaces. This means you won’t have to worry about water damage to your stored items from condensation. Our weather proof storage containers offer premium quality compared to most other outdoor storage facilities in the UK.

How does Grafotherm work?

Grafotherm consists of millions of micropores, each ranging from 0.1 to 100 microns in diameter. These micropores create a multi-layered, porous structure with exceptional moisture absorption capabilities. This structure also enhances thermal insulation, delaying the onset of the dew point (when condensation begins). As a result, condensation periods are significantly shortened, and any moisture that does form is promptly absorbed by the coating.

Thanks to its microporous design, Grafotherm facilitates faster evaporation compared to conventional coatings. The structure disrupts water surface tension, spreading moisture across the coating and enabling it to dry rapidly after exposure to dew point conditions. This swift drying process restores the coating’s ability to absorb moisture, preparing it for the next cycle.

Condensation Control Testing

Grafotherm has passed the Condensation Control Tests.

The effect of Grafotherm can be proved with a British testing method (Ministry of supply SSF B 111) A cone-shaped copper vessel is sprayed on the outside with Grafotherm and placed together with an identical untreated cone in a room at 20 degrees and 60% relative humidity.

Where it’s used

Grafotherm is applied using an airless spray to the underside of our container steel roof sheets and wall interiors. As shown in the graphic above this stop condensation and damp, making our storage secure from the elements and completely weatherproof.Grafotherm also helps insulate from heat and dampen vibrations and acoustics. It complies with EN13501-1, class A2-s1d0, and ASTM E84 (USA).

Grafotherm is produced in Suffolk, UK by Grafo Products. They are the sole UK manufacturer of Grafotherm. They have a licensee that produces Grafotherm in the USA and China. So you can rest assured that the Grafotherm coating on your self storage container is to the highest standards.

Will Mould grow on Grafo-Therm?

Yes, grafo-therm incorporates a highly efficient fungicide to prevent mould and fungal growth. So you won’t have to worry about any possible mould build ups. 

How long will Grafo-Therm last?

Spray grade Grafo-Therm is guaranteed for a 25-year period. This means our storage containers will see you through and keep your items protected against damp and condensation for years to come. There are example applications with Grafo Products, that were applied in the early 1980’s and are still performing as well today as when they were first applied.

Is Grafo-Therm harmful or hazardous?

Grafo-Therm is a water based compound. When dry the coating is harmless. It does contain fungicides that can cause irritation to the small minority of people sensitive to them when it’s wet. So you won’t have to worry about any irritation to your skin.
